The island's signature wave and a must-surf experience. This hollow, fast-breaking right works beautifully at mid-tide, drawing swell like a magnet. Be warned: it can get bumpy at full high tide and has a well-earned reputation for snapping boards. Expect barrels, speed, and that electric feeling of dropping in on something truly special. The sheltered channel is anchored by an inflatable platform—the perfect vantage for spectators, families, and non-surfers. While the surfers are locked in, snorkelers can explore the reef, sunbathers claim their spot on the platform, and kids jump into crystal-clear water. It's rare to find a world-class wave that doubles as a family playground, making Pinnacle Point a day out for everyone.

Seasons

Understanding the best times to surf in Sumba.

Dry Season (May - September)

The prime surf season brings consistent swell, lighter winds, and more stable conditions. Expect waist-high to double-overhead waves with occasional larger bombs. This is when the lineups are most consistent and conditions are most predictable.

Shoulder Season (Mid March - April, October - November)

The transition into and out of the dry season delivers some of Sumba's best waves with fewer crowds. While conditions are less predictable than peak season, you'll still find excellent swell and manageable lineups. Expect pleasant weather punctuated by occasional afternoon showers.

Wet Season (December - Mid March)

While less predictable, the wet season still offers opportunities for large swell and quieter crowds. Expect more variable conditions, tropical showers, and higher water temperatures. Best for surfers looking for adventure.

Seasonal Tips

  • Best Overall: June - August (most consistent, best weather)
  • Shoulder Season: Mid March–April and October–November (great conditions, fewer crowds)
  • Adventurous Travelers: December–Mid March (bigger swell, warm water)
